New trains

Over the past few years we've invested £475 million in new and better trains for Scotland.

This investment has delivered:

  • Faster journeys
  • 100,000 more weekday seats
  • Better services

And that’s not all. The new trains also feature:

  • Improved accessibility
  • More power sockets
  • Better WiFi

You'll no doubt have seen our Class 385 electric trains on Scotland's newly electrified central belt on the following routes:

  • Edinburgh Waverley - Glasgow Queen Street
  • Edinburgh Waverley – Stirling/Dunblane/Alloa
  • Glasgow Queen Street – Stirling/Dunblane/Alloa
  • Glasgow Queen Street – Cumbernauld/Falkirk Grahamston
  • Edinburgh Waverley – North Berwick
  • Edinburgh Waverley – Glasgow Central via Carstairs
  • Glasgow Central – Lanark/Cathcart Circle

Electrification

The electrification of Scotland's busiest route between Edinburgh and Glasgow via Falkirk High was completed in 2019, delivering quicker, smoother, quieter journeys, and cutting the journey time.

Along with the electrification, the EGIP project also delivered:

  • 150 kilometres of new electrified railway
  • Three redeveloped stations: Cumbernauld, Haymarket and Glasgow Queen Street
  • One new station: Edinburgh Gateway
  • One new depot for electric trains at Millerhill, east of Edinburgh
  • Longer platforms, to take longer trains at Linlithgow, Polmont, Falkirk High and Croy

High Speed Trains

Our refurbished HSTs are all now in service, connecting seven of Scotland's cities with quicker journey times and a more comfortable experience.
