‘Dons Express’ set for Cup Final

Last updated: Monday, 7 November 2016

ScotRail has confirmed it will run a ‘Dons Express’ football special to help Aberdeen supporters get to the Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden Park on 27 November.

This special train departs Aberdeen station at 10:05 on Sunday 27 November, and travels straight to Glasgow Queen Street arriving at 12:32.

Tickets will cost £43 return for adults and £16 return for children. The ticket cost also covers fans’ additional travel by ScotRail train from Glasgow Central Station to Mount Florida.

For the return journey, the train departs Glasgow Queen St at 18:45, arriving back to Aberdeen at 21:19.

Tickets for the ‘Dons Express’ can be bought in Aberdeen Station Travel Shop from Thursday 10 November between 09:00 – 21:00 on a first-come-first-served basis. Weekend opening hours are 10am-5pm.

Fans are encouraged to plan ahead and book their tickets for travel as all timetabled Aberdeen services will be busy and they may be unable to board if seats are booked.

Two other direct, scheduled services leave Aberdeen, at 09:24 and 10:30 but are already likely to be fully loaded with customers not travelling to the match.

Jacqueline Taggart, ScotRail Alliance customer experience director said: “We’re pleased to be able to run another football special for travelling Aberdeen supporters heading to Hampden to support their team on Cup Final day.

“I ask fans to book early to avoid disappointment as we expect demand for tickets on the ‘Dons Express’ to be high.”

A spokesperson for Aberdeen Football Club said: “I am delighted that ScotRail has organised this additional train for the Betfred Cup Final. Our supporters will be travelling to Hampden utilising a variety of modes of transport and I’m certain the ‘Dons Express’ will prove to be very popular indeed.

“I would endorse what Jacqueline has said and urge supporters to book early to avoid disappointment.”

Notes

A no alcohol policy will operate on this service.

A trolley service will be on board serving soft drinks and snacks

A queuing system will be in place at Aberdeen, Glasgow Central, Mount Florida and Glasgow Queen Street stations and all customers are asked to allow themselves plenty of time to catch their trains.

Timetable changes

On-going improvements to the rail network mean that timetabled services from Aberdeen to Glasgow are diverted via Cumbernauld until approximately 11:00, so fans travelling to Hampden with timetabled services should check ahead now.
