A very merry Christmas for Mallaig Primary pupils

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR MALLAIG PRIMARY PUPILS

Wednesday 23 December 2009

Station staff at Fort William spread some Christmas cheer today by holding a cracker of a party for 14 Mallaig school children.

Santa swapped his sleigh for a train as he whisked the children from Mallaig to Fort William in time for the festivities – with a little help from one of his elves.

Pupils from the Gaelic unit at Mallaig Primary School enjoyed festive fun on board the Lounge Car of the Caledonian Sleeper train.

Station staff provided a bumper buffet inside the specially decorated sleeper carriage, as well as a tour of the train and the Class 67 locomotive that pulls it.

Customers were treated to a display of Christmas art produced by the pupils, as well as some carol singing beside the station Christmas tree.

Joe Mansfield, traincrew team manager for the West Highlands said: “The staff put so much time, effort and enthusiasm into organising this event.  It’s brilliant to see the children enjoy a Christmas party with a bit of a difference.”

“They are always thrilled to see the Caledonian Sleeper – many of them for the first time – and lots of fun is had by all.”

Dawn MacPhie, a class teacher at Mallaig Primary School said: “A big thank you to ScotRail staff at Fort William for inviting the children along.  The children were so excited about having a Christmas party on the train.  I’m sure it’s something they will remember for some time to come.”
