If you plan to travel on any of the dates below, make sure you check services first and leave plenty of time. It’s best to buy your ticket in advance, too – although seating cannot always be guaranteed.

Scotland’s best scare attraction will give their torturers a free rein on visitors this February half term. During the traditional ‘month of atonement’ they will feature Terrible Torture, with dark punishments from the last five hundred years demonstrated on petrified visitors. Visitors will come face to face with a Dungeon torturer wielding grisly instruments like tongue tearers, thumb screws, and the Judas Cradle… to name but a few.

Glasgow Music and Film Festival 2012 takes place from 16-26 February in 16 different venues across the city. The programme encompasses a huge range of moving image experiences. The annual international poetry festival, StAnza takes place in St Andrews, a historical town recently short-listed for a Creative Place Award.

Take the train to Edinburgh to explore the world! The National Museum of Scotland is now open once again following a spectacular three year transformation.
Kids will love the Adventure Planet Gallery where they can dress up to ‘explore’ the Arctic or take part in a dino-dig. Make sure you don’t miss Chia Chia the panda, the 12m long T-Rex and the Egyptian tomb.
The museum is conveniently located in Chambers Street in the Old Town, just a few minutes’ walk from the Royal Mile and Waverley Station.
