First ScotRail gears up for Scotland v Italy
31 August 2005
First ScotRail is urging travellers to plan their journeys well in advance of the 17.30 kick off this Saturday as the Scottish football team take on Italy at Hampden Park.
The rail company is expecting services into Glasgow as well as services between Glasgow Central and Kings Park / Mount Florida to be extremely busy. Customers attending the game are advised to allow plenty of time to travel and to purchase tickets in advance.
Longer trains than normal will run on many routes with the majority of services between Edinburgh and Glasgow lengthened to six car trains. Services between Aberdeen – Glasgow and Glasgow Central – Mount Florida / Kings Park will also be enhanced. In addition, extra trains will run to and from Mount Florida from Glasgow Central as well as between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Customers not attending the match should note that there will be limited availability on First ScotRail services due to the large number of fans travelling and should take this into consideration when planning their journeys.
The sale and carrying of alcohol will be banned on many train services throughout the day and queuing systems will be in place at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow Queen Street, Glasgow Central and Mount Florida. British Transport Police officers will be travelling on various trains throughout the day.
