New North Berwick service part of Festival timetable

New North Berwick service part of Festival timetable

Monday 27 July 2009

A new late-night train to North Berwick is among this year’s improved services for the Edinburgh Festivals.

The new ScotRail service will run on Fridays and Saturdays and depart at 2337 - 30 minutes after the usual last train - giving customers more time to enjoy the festival atmosphere.

Late night services to Glasgow Queen Street will depart from Edinburgh Monday to Friday at 0001 and at 0030 on Saturday and Sunday mornings during the Festivals.  There will also be a later train to Inverkeithing on Friday nights at 2350 from 14 August.

Customers travelling to and from the Festivals will also benefit from more carriages on many existing services.

ScotRail is also providing extra trains from Edinburgh for the Bank of Scotland Fireworks on Sunday 6 September, including a special service for people in the Newcraighall and Brunstane areas.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: "We are delighted to offer more trains and extra carriages for the 2009 Festivals."

James King, Scottish Board Member of Passenger Focus, the independent watchdog, said: "Passenger Focus has long been calling for later trains out of Edinburgh to match improvements elsewhere, so we welcome ScotRail's decision to run late night Festival trains again this year.

"We are particularly pleased that ScotRail has responded to our plea on behalf of passengers for the introduction of a later service to North Berwick this year."
