Customers at Aberdeen station are in for an even warmer welcome from ScotRail with the opening of a new heated waiting room.
Part of an extensive improvement plan at the station, the 70-seat room is the result of a £200,000 investment by the train operator.
The new facility offers a comfortable and relaxing area for customers before their train journey, or for people waiting to meet friends and family off arriving trains.
Wheelchair spaces with adjacent companion seats as well as 'perch' seating and automatic doors make the waiting room easily accessible for customers with restricted mobility.
Large screens display live train running information, and CCTV has been installed. The station public address system has been extended into the waiting room and a speaker is fitted with an induction loop to provide assistance for hearing aid users.
Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson said: "As a frequent user of Aberdeen station I am pleased with the improved customer facilities, which I am sure will be of benefit to all passengers who use this station. These improvements can only enhance the overall journey experience for passengers and encourage greater use of train services in Scotland."
Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, added: “We’re delighted to open this new waiting room, which is a further step forward in the transformation of Aberdeen Station into a modern, accessible environment with first class customer facilities.”
The official opening of the adjacent Union Square Aberdeen development is planned for 29 October, housing a hotel, shops, restaurants, a cinema and a multi-storey car park.
