Perth-Edinburgh Flexipass offers 23 per cent savings

Friday 19 December 2008

People travelling by rail between Perth and Edinburgh can look forward to saving more than 20 per cent on their journeys from January 2.

First ScotRail is introducing a 10-journey Flexipass – priced at £98.90, a 23 per cent saving compared with purchasing single tickets.

The Flexipass is of particular benefit for people who travel regularly by train but not daily.

Peter Williams, First ScotRail’s commercial director, said: “Flexipass tickets are very popular with passengers who travel on the same route several times a week. They are a convenient, value for money option, providing a viable alternative to the car.

“Flexipasses also allow customers the freedom of not committing to a full season ticket, which may not be appropriate for their specific travel requirements.”

The offer follows the introduction of improved rail services between Perth and Edinburgh on December 15, which included:

• An hourly service between Perth and the capital, via Markinch and Kirkcaldy, Mondays to Saturdays

• A 0510 service from Perth to Edinburgh, providing a connection into the 0700 train to London, and:

• An additional morning commuter service from Blair Atholl at 0712 to Edinburgh - calling at Pitlochry and Dunkeld before arriving in Perth at 0759.

Councillor John Kellas, Perth and Kinross Council’s Enterprise and Infrastructure Convener, said: “Together with the improvements to local rail services, the new Flexipass is very much to be welcomed. I am sure this will be of benefit to local businessmen and women who travel between Perth and Edinburgh regularly.”
