Notes to Editors
Rail north of the border is a devolved power of the Scottish Government. Under the franchise agreement, ScotRail is able to increase regulated fares by RPI+1% and this remains the case for ScotRail fares from January 2012.
In England, the UK Government had decided that many fares need to rise at RPI +3% for the next three years to help pay for more trains, better stations and faster services. However, it announced on 29 November that the RPI +3% on regulated fares would be capped at RPI +1% from January 2012.
