ScotRail publishes new Connections Guide

SCOTRAIL PUBLISHES NEW CONNECTIONS GUIDE

Tuesday 10 November 2009

A new guide available at stations across Scotland aims to help rail travelers get the most out of their journey – door to door.

The ScotRail Connections guide provides information for people wishing to connect to Scotland’s railway - by cycle, bus, ferry or air.

It details how cyclists can store their bikes at stations, take them by train or even obtain discounts on bike hire by presenting a valid train ticket.

It also shows how using PlusBus, RailBus, Rail & Sail or other combined ticket options can help make easy journeys to points beyond the rail network, including Scotland's airports.

Advice is supplied on how much time should be allowed to change trains at stations – or between Glasgow's Queen Street and Central Stations.  Caledonian Sleeper connections are also covered.

Des Bradley, ScotRail’s transport integration manager, said: "Rail holds the key to reaching many places that are just an easy transfer away by bicycle or via bus, ferry, air or other rail routes.

“We hope this guide will help broaden our customers' horizons by making them more aware of the possibilities for seamless journeys across the public transport network.”

NOTE TO EDITORS

This Connections guide integrates ScotRail's previously separate guide to cycling by train.

It is also available to download from www.scotrail.co.uk
