'Twin Peaks' challenge

Wednesday 17 June 2009

TEN ScotRail managers are to climb Ben Nevis and Ben Lomond in two days to raise money for Meningitis Research and Save the Children.

They include traincrew and drivers’ team managers, and on-train manager John McCargo, of Glasgow.

John is no stranger to fundraising, having walked the West Highland Way to raise money for St Margaret’s Hospice in Clydebank.

His latest effort follows a challenge by a colleague whose daughter contracted meningitis.

John, who has been employed by ScotRail for 20 years, said: “We came up with the two-day ‘Twin Peaks’ climb in appreciation to the assistance his family has received.

“We will also be supporting FirstGroup’s charity partner, Save the Children.”

The 10-strong group will reach the summit of both Munros later this month.

FirstGroup, whose rail operations include ScotRail, has already donated £445 to support the climbing bids.
