Stations Community Regeneration Fund

Stations Community Regeneration Fund

Transport Scotland and First ScotRail launched a £1 million Scotland-wide scheme in April 2009 to make use of disused railway station buildings.

This scheme makes use of disused station buildings as either:

  • a business meeting passenger or community needs
  • a community project which contributes to the local community

The SCRF has create conditions where passengers benefit from improved facilities at stations, redundant buildings have been brought back into use, and new opportunities for  job creation and community involvement have been opened up.  The sixth and final round of funding resulted in three successfulapplications, an Armed Forces Veterans Association resource centre at Dumbarton Central station, further enhancements at North Queensferry station  and a major project at Kilmarnock station which includes a gift shop to benefit local school children, a second hand bookshop and reading room and an office and meeting room for The Burns Federation. Works at each of these schemes are underway and planned to be completed in early 2015.

The fund is now closed.
