Highland Railcard

An annual railcard for Highland residents which entitles holders to 50% off local rail travel. 

Things you need to know...

What are the benefits?

  • Save 50% each time you buy one of the following tickets:
    • Anytime Single or Return
    • Anytime Day Single or Return
    • Off-Peak Return
    • Off-Peak Day Return ticket
  • You can easily save more than the cost of your Highland Railcard in one trip alone.
  • You can take up to two children with you for a flat fare of £2 return each when you make a journey on your Highland Railcard.

Who can apply?

  • The Highland Railcard is available to anyone aged 16 or over, permanently living in the following postcode areas:
    • All IV except: IV12, IV30, IV31, IV32, IV36
    • All KW
    • All HS
    • PA20 to PA38, PA41 to PA49, PA60 to PA78
    • PH16, PH17, PH30 to PH44, PH49, PH50
    • FK20, FK21
    • G83

When can I travel?

  • You can travel at anytime, but the price of your ticket will vary depending on the time of your selected journey.
  • You must carry your Highland Railcard with you when you travel to validate your ticket.

Which routes can I travel on?

  • Your Highland Railcard discount is only available for travel on the following routes:
    • Mallaig/Fort William/Oban – Glasgow
    • Wick/Thurso – Inverness
    • Kyle of Lochalsh - Inverness
  • Valid on ScotRail services only.

How can I buy my ticket?

  • To buy your Highland Railcard you must complete the application form and provide proof of permanent residence in the qualifying area. (Click here to download the application form.)
  • You can buy your Highland Railcard from:
    • The following staffed stations:
      • Inverness, Dingwall, Kyle of Lochalsh,Wick, Thurso, Oban, Fort William, Mallaig
    • By post to the following address enclosing your application form, proof of residence and payment:
