First ScotRail has joined stv broadcaster and journalist Stephen Jardine's campaign to get the nation Eating for Scotland.
A week of activities is planned which kicks off this Sunday (31 August), with a special Scottish menu on the Caledonian Sleeper from Fort William - featuring 100% natural meals from Simon Howie, the Perthshire-based premium butcher. From starter to cheeseboard, the theme is fresh and sourced in Scotland.
Other initiatives include a competition in the September edition of customer magazine First Insight to win luxury food hampers from Mey Selections in Sutherland. Make sure you get your copy! And First ScotRail staff are also included - hundreds of them will receive goodie bags of Scottish produce to take home and try for themselves.
Stephen Jardine and his family have pledged to eat Scottish food and drink from Burns Night until St Andrews Day. He said: “It’s about eating fresh, local produce, cutting wasteful food air miles and supporting the Scottish economy at the same time.”
Mary Grant, managing director of First ScotRail, added: “We are proud to support Stephen’s campaign. The quality of Scottish produce is high but the food miles are low – a perfect combination.”
