From 18 May 2008, with our great value Kids Go Free ticket, children up to and including the age of 15 can travel free off-peak, every day, all year round, whilst adults can take advantage of our off-peak fares.
Whether you’re going shopping, visiting granny or grandpa or just looking for a great day out, the kids will love going by train.
Plus…You won’t have to keep making toilet stops for the wee ones, or sit in traffic jams with the constant “are we nearly there yet” ringing in your ears. All in all a much more enjoyable and family-friendly day out.

With a Kids Go free ticket:
Sample Fares. Based on 1 adult, 2 children (aged 5-15). Children under 5 years old go free on all First ScotRail services.
Kids Go Free tickets are not valid in conjunction with Advance Fares, nor valid in conjunction with any other offer. No further Railcard discounts are available.

You can buy Kids Go Free tickets at staffed First ScotRail stations or rail appointed travel agents. Tickets are obtainable on-train when you travel from a station which is unstaffed or where booking office facilities are not available.
When travelling with a Kids Go Free ticket to or from a station with automatic ticket barriers in operation, please use the manual gate.
When you can travel
Tickets are valid off-peak on the date of issue only. Both outward and return travel must be completed on the same day.
Tickets are valid all day at the weekend. Monday to Friday outward and return travel is available on off-peak trains, generally after 9.15am (9.00am for journeys in Strathclyde and between Aberdeen and Inverness) with some restrictions in the evening peak. Please enquire at time of purchase for any restrictions on your chosen journey.
The following restrictions apply on other operators services:
Not valid on National Express East Coast services on Sundays between Edinburgh and Dundee after 4.00pm, but is allowed for longer journeys from Edinburgh to Montrose and beyond.
Not valid on National Express East Coast services to and from Berwick Upon Tweed.
In July and August not valid on National Express East Coast services between Inverness and Edinburgh, nor between Edinburgh and Aberdeen in both directions. It is however valid on intermediate journeys entirely north of Edinburgh e.g. Inverness to Pitlochry.
