Some extra help for cyclists using Strathclyde electric services

ScotRail welcomes cyclists on all of its services and we want your journey to go smoothly. If you take your bike on board our electric trains in Strathclyde, you may already be aware that a dedicated cycle storage area is not available - so we've provided some extra guidance to help you on your way. The routes involved are:

Glasgow Central to Cathcart, Neilston and Newton
Glasgow Central to Gourock and Wemyss Bay
Glasgow Central to Ayr, Ardrossan and Largs
Lanark/Motherwell/Larkhall – Milngavie/Dalmuir via Glasgow Central Low Level
Drumgelloch/Airdrie/Springburn – Milngavie/Dalmuir/  Balloch/Helensburgh via Glasgow Queen St Low Level

On these trains, you can store your bike in the vestibule area, however we ask that you observe the following guidelines:

  • Please place your bike in the vestibule, on the right hand side of the train (facing direction of travel) as there are generally fewer platforms on this side*
  • Stay with or near to your bike at all times
  • Check regularly to ensure it is not causing an obstruction, especially on the approach to stations

Please note that it may be necessary to refuse to accept additional cycles on these services if the train is very busy. However, cycles which are already on board will be allowed to remain.

*except on services to Cathcart, Neilston and Newton, where you should place your bike on the left hand side of the train (facing direction of travel)
