Christmas 2017

Thursday, 14 December 2017

Christmas is a busy time of year, so we’re doing all we can to get you where you want to be.

For partygoers, we’re putting on extra services between Edinburgh and Glasgow (in each direction), departing late Friday night/in the early hours of Saturday morning from Friday, 24 November until Friday, 22 December. The new trains will depart at the following times:

Edinburgh Waverley

  • 00:01
  • 01:10

Glasgow Queen Street

  • 00:06
  • 01:09

The services call at the following stations (in both directions):

  • Bishopbriggs
  • Lenzie
  • Croy
  • Falkirk High
  • Polmont
  • Linlithgow
  • Haymarket

Customers will be able to use valid tickets dated for the day before – i.e. if your ticket is dated for the Friday, you will still be able to use that ticket on one of these extra early Saturday morning services.

Please note that only the following entrances/exits will be open for customers using the extra late-night services: Edinburgh Waverley - South Ramp; Haymarket - Front door, by bike racks; Glasgow Queen Street - Main Dundas Street entrance.

On our busiest routes, we’ll also be running longer trains on many routes across the Central Belt every Friday night and weekend until Christmas, beginning on Friday 24 November.

The extra carriages will be added on key services to and from:

  • Glasgow Central
  • Glasgow Queen Street
  • Edinburgh Waverley
Heading out for the evening?

Plan and Buy

Christmas isn't far away, so we're sharing our Christmas timetable now so that you can plan ahead and be ready for the Christmas rush.

We'll keep you moving throughout the festive season, although train times will be different from normal.

The days between Christmas and New Year are some of the quietest all year, so it's a good time to carry out essential improvement works while disturbing as few journeys as possible.

While you're tucking in to your Christmas dinner, an army of 4500 ScotRail Alliance staff will be out building the best railway Scotland's ever had.

Plan your festive journey here or scroll down for last train times and changes to timetables.
