Access changes for the 2018 European Championships Road Race

Wednesday, 1 August 2018

Glasgow City Council is closing roads across Glasgow to accommodate the 2018 European Championships.

While ScotRail train services will be running as normal, there will be temporary changes to the 398 bus service that runs between Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street, and Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station.

These changes will be in place on Wednesday 1 August, Sunday 5 August, Wednesday 8 August, Friday 10 August, and Sunday 12 August.

To help your journey run smoothly, we are asking anyone who needs to travel on the bus between Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street on the affected dates to consider booking assistance in advance.

Passengers who do not require assistance should make the short walk to the temporary bus stop or walk between the two stations instead.

Road diversions will be in place for the duration of the Championships and bus journey times may be extended, however changes will only be made to the bus service on Wednesday 1 August, Sunday 5 August, Wednesday 8 August, Friday 10 August, and Sunday 12 August.

Details of changes

Due to road closures on the following dates, the 398 bus service will run via a different route.

Wednesday 1 August

If you’re wanting to go between Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central, the 398 can be accessed from a designated stop outside the ‘Missoula’ restaurant on Renfield Street.

Wednesday 8 August & Friday 10 August

If you’re wanting to go between Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central, the 398 can be accessed from a designated stop outside the ‘Wagamamas’ restaurant on West George Street.

During these days, passengers with assistance travelling to/from Glasgow Queen Street by taxi should use the temporary disabled pick-up/drop-off rank on West George Street.

Station staff will be on-hand at Glasgow Queen Street to walk passengers who need assistance to the bus pick-up point and taxi rank.

No changes have been made to the pick up/drop off point at Glasgow Central on these dates. An alternative bus stop may be in use at Buchanan Bus Station on some dates so keep an eye out for signs detailing these changes.

Sunday 5 August & Sunday 12 August

Due to extensive road closures across Glasgow, the 398 bus service cannot run at all on these days.

If you’re wanting to go between Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street, please travel via Partick station – where you will be able to get a connection to either Glasgow Queen Street or Glasgow Central Low Level.

If you are arriving at either station via a high level service, staff will be on-hand to help you when accessing lower level services to Partick.
