More seats and more services for Edinburgh Marathon

Last updated: Wednesday, 23 May 2018

ScotRail is adding more seats and more services on Sunday for the Edinburgh Marathon.

Spectators and runners will benefit from extra carriages on trains between Edinburgh and North Berwick throughout the day on Sunday 27 May.

Extra trains are also set to run between Edinburgh and Prestonpans, stopping at Wallyford and Musselburgh station to allow spectators to travel between the start and finish line.

Due to ongoing electrification and improvement work, customers traveling on the Glasgow Central-Edinburgh via Shotts line will experience longer journey times. Replacement buses are in operation, however due to road closures while the race takes place, buses will terminate and start from Haymarket station until after 1pm.

ScotRail Head of Customer Experience Graham Heald said:

“We’re looking forward to helping people travel to the Edinburgh Marathon to cheer on their friends, family and favourite athletes.

“To make it easier for customers to travel between the start and finish lines, we will be providing extra services and adding extra carriages to our usual Sunday services.

“Customers travelling on the Glasgow Central-Edinburgh via Shotts line should be aware that, due to road closures, we won’t be able to provide any buses in to Edinburgh Waverley until after the race finishes. Instead, buses will arrive and start from Haymarket.

“Make sure to check your journey on our website or mobile app, and good luck to all the runners.”
