Punctuality on Scotland’s Railway has improved for the fourth consecutive period, with more trains than ever before arriving on time.
Across Scotland, 89.8 per cent of ScotRail trains met the rail industry standard public performance measure (PPM), arriving at their destination within 4 minutes and 59 seconds of their timetabled arrival time, having called at all scheduled stations.
This means the moving annual average – the rolling performance over the previous 12 months – has improved for the first time this year, now standing at 87.6 per cent.
With the December 2018 timetable bringing more than 100 additional daily services for customers, it means that more trains arrived within PPM than in any other previous four-week period since the start of the franchise – 55,927.
Another highlight of a positive period of performance relates to services going into, or leaving from, Glasgow Central high level, with 95.7 per cent meeting PPM – the best for the station in 18 months.
The two incidents that had the most impact on the performance of the ScotRail Alliance – a partnership between Network Rail Scotland and ScotRail - for the period were:
- A train fault near Edinburgh Waverley.
- A signal fault at Haymarket.
