More than 500 children across Scotland will benefit from a partnership between ScotRail and basketballscotland to promote rail safety.

Launched earlier this year, the partnership sees the rail operator working closely with basketballscotland to promote the ScotRail school safety programme ‘Act Safe Be Safe’.

The initiative, a fun and educational programme with pupils, teachers and parents, creates rail safety ambassadors within the team at the sporting organisation.

Through a programme of sport and physical activity related events across the country, children are educated on the importance of safety around the railway network.

ScotRail Sustainability and Safety Assurance Director David Lister said:

“We are delighted to be working with basketballscotland to engage with children and encourage them to have a positive interaction with the railway network in Scotland.

“Our services are more than just a way of getting from A to B – they are a way to engage and work with local communities, and this is another fantastic example of that.”

Head of Operations at basketballscotland Colin Gregor said:

“We are really excited to work with ScotRail to use the power of sport to deliver valuable rail safety information.

“Our team have worked hard to develop some fun games and challenges to test basketball skills and develop rail safety knowledge. We are looking forward to seeing the games and challenges in action.”
