We’re helping support people across Scotland who are looking for work by offering free travel to interviews and a Monthly Season ticket for their first month at work.
With the current cost of living crisis, every little saving really does help. And when you’re trying to secure a job we know that money can be extra tight. We’re working with Jobcentre Plus' across Scotland to ensure that every person looking for work, or for better work, can get to interviews and can enjoy their first month in their new role without having to worry about the cost of travel.
If you’re the holder of a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card, you can get:
- up to two free tickets a month for travel to interviews
- a free Monthly Season Ticket when you secure work
How to get free travel to an interview
As part of the scheme, you will be entitled to up to two free tickets a month for travel to interviews.
To claim the free tickets, please follow the process outlined below:
- Go to your local Jobcentre Plus and ask for support for travel costs
- Your Work Coach will provide you with a Jobcentre Plus Travel Card if you are eligible
- Your Work Coach will provide you with a form to fill in which will be endorsed with a dated Jobcentre Plus stamp
- Please then take the completed form to a station Ticket Office and present the form with your Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card as photo ID
- The Ticket Office staff member will then give you your train ticket

How to get a free Monthly Season Ticket for one month
Congratulations on your new job!
To get you started we would love to give you a free Season Ticket for your first month.
To get your free Season Ticket, please follow the process below:
- Go to your local Jobcentre Plus and confirm that you are about to start work and would like to claim a free monthly ticket
- If you don't already have a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card, your Work Coach will provide you with one if you are eligible
- Your Work Coach will provide you with a form to fill in which will be endorsed with a dated Jobcentre Plus stamp
- Please then take the completed form to a station Ticket Office and present the form along with your Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card as photo ID
- The booking office staff will then issue your Monthly Season Ticket
Please remember that you must carry your Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card as photo ID every time you travel. If you fail to present this alongside your Monthly Season Ticket, you will be charged the full fare.
