Planting plan proposal for new groups

The following questions have been designed to get you thinking about what will and won’t work for your station and to encourage you to think about the practicalities of adoption. Station adoption is a unique and rewarding pastime, but it comes with a unique set of challenges.

ScotRail will work with you to assess the practicalities of your planting plan, such the type of plants, their location, station access and water supply. Some stations already have flowerbeds which you may be able to use, others may require planters or tubs to be installed. You should consider carefully the ongoing maintenance required and how much time you realistically have available.

As part of your initial planting plan you’ll be asked to submit an estimate of how much you expect to spend on plants and materials. An annual budget will then be agreed with ScotRail.

Q2. In which location/area(s) of the station do you wish to work (e.g. platform 1 - east end of platform)? A plan for a station can be provided.

Q3. What type of activity do you wish to carry out (e.g. tubs, baskets, flowerbeds)?

Q4. How do you propose to go about this planting (e.g. number of people, tools, equipment, hours of work, supervision)?

Q5. Please provide a summary of plants and materials you are proposing to use and an estimated cost for each?

Q6. Once planted, how do you propose to maintain the area (e.g. watering, weeding, seasonal replacement of plants)?

Q7. Is it intended that minors (under 16) will assist with any aspect this work? If so, please detail all measures your organisation has in place to support this activity?

Q8. Is it intended that persons with additional physical or learning support needs will assist with any aspect of this work? If so, please detail measures that your organisation has in place to facilitate this work.

Q9. How do you propose to barrier the area you intend to work in – should this be required?

Q10. Do you intend to use pesticides, chemicals etc (if yes, please provide details)?

Q11. Please list below any locations within your plan that requires you to access or work within a slope, embankment or incline?
