Network disruption around Aberdeen

Services between Glasgow/Edinburgh and Aberdeen are disrupted following extreme rain and flooding, and the impact of a major incident at Stonehaven.

Changes to services

Glasgow/Edinburgh - Aberdeen

Services are disrupted by an ongoing investigation into a train derailment at Stonehaven on 12 August. Trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Aberdeen will terminate at Dundee where rail replacement coaches will operate between Dundee and Aberdeen. A rail shuttle service is also in operation between Stonehaven and Aberdeen, calling at Portlethen. Some rail shuttle services are extended to start and terminate at Inverurie or Dyce. Please check our Journey Planner before making your journey.

An anticipated date for reopening the route has not been confirmed.


Edinburgh/Dundee - Montrose

From Monday 14 September, a rail shuttle service will be introduced between Edinburgh and Montrose (Monday to Saturday) and between Dundee and Montrose (Sundays) allowing customers to complete their journey by rail. Existing rail replacement services (as detailed above) remain in place for customers traveling beyond Montrose.


Montrose - Aberdeen

Services are suspended until we are able to reopen the line.


Inverurie – Stonehaven

A rail shuttle service is in operation between Inverurie/Aberdeen/Dyce and Stonehaven. Please check our Journey Planner for amended train times.
