Barry Mill

Barry Mill

2-For-1 Admission

£6.50

Enjoy the splash of the waterwheel and the sound and smell of grinding corn in this picturesque 19th-century working mill.

Milling demonstrations normally take place on Sundays. There is an exhibition on the historical role of the mill and a delightful walkway alongside the mill lade. Now a haven of tranquillity, in the 19th century Barry Mill was alive with the splash of the water-wheel, the rumble of the machinery and the smell of grinding corn. The mill was the heart of this small rural community, providing work and social opportunities for local people. Until 1982 the mill was still at work - the last of its kind in Angus - producing oatmeal and finally animal feed.

Barry Mill is a magnificent example of Scotland's industrial heritage. It is set in a secluded area beside the Barry Burn, with a working mill, ladeside and burnside walks, and guided tours.
