National Mining Museum Scotland
The National Mining Museum Scotland is a 5 star visitor attraction set in the wonderfully restored Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange.
The museum tells the story of coal for Scotland through two floors of exhibitions, pit head tour, Big Stuff tour and Scotland’s largest winding engine. Hear insights about what life was like underground from guides who are all ex-miners!
There are lots of interactive activities in the Kids Zone too. Find the colliery cats, dress up in Victorian costumes, build a bridge, find out about friction and learn about levers in the Interactive Zone.
There's a direct pathway from Newtongrange railway station and the museum has a café, outdoor play and picnic areas, and a regular programme of events.
