Timetable changes from 8 August

Thursday, 7 July 2016

A temporary timetable is currently in place due to the ongoing Queen Street tunnel improvements. When the tunnel re-opens on Monday 8 August, most services will go back to as they were before the works, but there are some exceptions.

We’re using this opportunity to introduce some changes which will help improve service levels and meet customer demands.

A summary of the changes is below - please read to see if your route is affected:

The train times on these routes will be broadly similar to how they are running during the tunnel works.

Please note - there will be changes to stopping patterns on Helensburgh/Milngavie – Edinburgh services. As a result, there will be no ‘all stopper’ trains. Instead of one ‘fast’ and one ‘slow’ service, there will be two ‘semi-fast’ trains on these routes.

Helensburgh – Edinburgh

Through the day, trains will call in both directions at: Craigendoran, Cardross, Dalreoch, Dumbarton Central, Dumbarton East, Dalmuir, Hyndland, Partick, Charing Cross, Glasgow Queen Street, High Street, Garrowhill, Easterhouse, Blairhill, Coatbridge Sunnyside, Coatdyke, Airdrie, Drumgelloch, Bathgate, Livingston North, Uphall, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket.

In the evening, Helensburgh services will also call at Caldercruix, Blackridge and Armadale and will NOT stop at Bellgrove, Carntyne, Shettleston, Garrowhill, Easterhouse, Blairhill. Trains between Airdrie and Balloch call at these stations instead in the evening.

Milngavie – Edinburgh

Throughout the day*, trains will call at: Hillfoot, Bearsden, Westerton, Anniesland, Hyndland, Partick, Charing Cross, Glasgow Queen Street, High Street, Bellgrove, Carntyne, Shettleston, Coatbridge Sunnyside, Airdrie, Drumgelloch, Caldercruix, Blackridge, Armadale, Bathgate, Livingston North, Uphall, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket.

*This service will cease to run in the evening as it has always done.

Balloch – Airdrie/Cumbernauld

The train times on these routes will be broadly similar to how they are running during the tunnel works.

This means:

  • Dumbarton Central and Dumbarton East will continue to benefit from an enhanced service.
  • The continuation of the Airdrie – Balloch evening service results in a better service for customers who travel between Airdrie and Glasgow.

Please note - Currently almost every train on line via Airdrie-Bathgate has six carriages. When the tunnel works are complete, six class 334 trains will be taken out of service for modification, resulting in carriages being moved around to suit customer demand.

Trains which use Glasgow Central Low Level station will continue to run as they are now.

However, services which currently terminate at Anderston will be reinstated to/from Dalmuir. This means Scotstounhill, Jordanhill, Garscadden, Yoker, and Clydebank stations will go back to four trains per hour (currently two per hour during tunnel improvements).

An additional late evening train will operate Monday to Saturday from Glasgow Central to Milngavie, departing Glasgow Central at 2337 and arriving at Milngavie at 0001. This will offer customers a later last train Monday to Thursday and on Saturdays, and will fill the gap between the current last and penultimate trains on Fridays.

From Sunday 14 August, a train will leave Edinburgh at 09:33, arriving at North Berwick at 10:06.
