With our Kids for a Quid ticket, up to four children can travel for just £1 return each with an adult. Available every day, all year round, making exploring with the family great value for money.

Kids for a Quid tickets are available with most adult tickets, including Advance Singles, Season Tickets, Flexipass, and most concession tickets.

How do I get Kids for a Quid?

  • First, get your adult ticket - either from a station ticket office, ticket vending machine, online or on your mobile
  • Next, buy your Kids for a Quid ticket from a member of ScotRail staff. Kids for a Quid can only be purchased at a station ticket office or on the train
  • Remember, you can’t buy a Kids for a Quid ticket online, on app or at a ticket vending machine, so speak to a member of ScotRail staff who will be happy to help

Kids for a Quid tickets mean you can take up to four children aged 5 to 15 for £1 return each anywhere in Scotland on ScotRail services when they travel with an adult.

When you buy a ticket, you must specify how many children will travel with you and you will be charged £1 per child per return journey.

You don’t need to include children under age five - they travel for free on all ScotRail services.

Kids for a Quid tickets are valid all year-round, including school holidays, on off-peak services only. Generally, this means after 9.15 on weekdays and any time at the weekend.

For the duration of the ‘Off-Peak fares all day long’ trial, which runs until 27 September 2024, Kids for a Quid tickets are valid for travel all day, any day. Click here to find out more about this government-funded trial.

Kids for a Quid tickets can be used on all ScotRail trains.

It is not available:

  • On CrossCountry services
  • On services to and from Lockerbie or Reston, and between Edinburgh and Dunbar
  • With LNER Advance single tickets

Buy a day return ticket if you’re coming back on the same day. An open return lets you come back on any day within one month.

Kids for a Quid tickets are available with most adult tickets. It can be used in conjunction with Singles (including Advance single tickets), Returns, Season Tickets, Flexipass, Concessions and Club 50 discounted tickets.

They are not valid with tourism/rover products and group tickets.

There’s no need to reserve a seat on any ScotRail service. If you want to reserve a seat for longer journeys you can do this up to 12 weeks before you travel.

Kids for a Quid tickets are valid for Standard Class travel only and are not available to upgrade to First Class.

The adult travelling with the child can use Railcard discounts for their ticket. However, there is no further discount for the Kids for a Quid ticket.

You can’t break your journey, unless you have to make a connection to reach your destination station.

Refunds or changes to tickets are not available with Kids for a Quid.
