Cycling by train

Rail travel and cycling are both environmentally friendly forms of transport, so we're keen to promote journeys using both options.

Nearly all ScotRail stations have cycle parking facilities, and cycle lockers are provided at many train stations. To see what's available at your station, check our station facilities page.

Looking out for cyclists

We won’t charge you to take your bike on our trains.  However, availability is subject to space and, in some cases, to a cycle reservation. Reservations can be made by contacting us on 08457 55 00 33 or visiting a staffed station with your valid ticket.  We’ve also arranged discounted cycle hire for rail travellers at various locations across Scotland.

NEW - you can now also book your cycle online as part of your ticket purchase.

Our Cycle Rescue Service provides peace of mind to cyclists who hold a valid rail ticket. And as well as that, we keep up to date with cycling groups through our regular Cycling Forums.

It’s easy to find out more

For full details of our cycle policy, and arrangements for taking bikes on ScotRail trains (including Caledonian sleepers to and from London Euston) take a look at our Connections Guide. New Trains

Our fleet of new class 380 trains are now entering service. For more information, including advice for cyclists when the train is longer than the platform, click here.
