A Guide to ScotRail for Cyclists
As part of our continuing commitment to protecting the environment, all our ScotRail stations in Scotland now have secure cycle parking facilities except for 11 stations where there is no suitable site for such facility. We provide free reservations and guarantee cycle spaces on trains when pre-booked through ScotRail Telesales on 08457 55 00 33.
ScotRail is committed to developing a wide ranging consultation programme with cycling groups involving regional partnerships that allow everyone to make their views known. The programme also involves a specific integration group that will address issues around connecting all modes of transport.
Our efforts were rewarded when we received the ATOC National Cycle-Rail Award for Customer Service Excellence and Transport Operator of the Year 2006.
Cycles go free
ScotRail welcomes cyclists on all services (subject to availability) and taking your cycle is free. Increased cycle capacity varies between 2 and 8 spaces per train on some routes.
ScotRail Cycle Rescue - 08000 717 212
When you travel on ScotRail services with your cycle intending to cycle to your final destination we want you to be sure you get there. If you are unable to complete the cycle portion of your journey as a result of an accident, vandalism or an irreparable breakdown to your cycle, ScotRail Cycle Rescue will ensure you and your cycle (if appropriate) are transported either to your destination for that day, providing this is on the Scottish mainland, or to the nearest ScotRail served station where you can get an onward train service. In the event that an incident occurs late in the day you will be transported to the nearest Scottish city where you can find overnight accommodation and an onward train service the following day and, if appropriate, repair facilities for your cycle.

Exclusions
ScotRail and ETA shall not be liable for:
Cycle lockers
ScotRail have recently installed cycle lockers which are provided free of charge at certain stations for customers who intend to complete their onward travel by Rail.
Stations with the free facility currently are:
Blantyre, Cambuslang, Chatelherault, Hamilton West, Kirkhill, Larkhall, Newton, Rutherglen.
In order to make the best use of this free facility it is important that the conditions relating to the usage of the cycle lockers is understood and adhered to by all concerned.
Daily occupation only
It is intended that cycle lockers should only be occupied for short periods to give the maximum benefit to all types of cyclists. e.g. not stored for periods longer than one day as this can limit the availability of cycle lockers.
Cycles left for longer periods may be removed to Lost Property
Any cycle found to be stored for an extended period may mean that ScotRail can be required to forcibly open the locker to allow access.
Should this action be required the cycle may be placed in ScotRail Lost Property and may attract a Lost Property administration charge.
Security padlock to be provided by user.
All new cycle lockers installed by First ScotRail require the customer to provide their own security padlock.
Lockers are designed with an internal locking mechanism which becomes secure when held in place by a padlock.
Lockers for cycles and associated equipment only. i.e. Cycles, cycle related clothing, helmet etc.
Cycle lockers must not be used for any other purpose such as storing tools, combustables, consumables or other non cycle related equipment.
Contents left at owners risk
ScotRail will not be responsible for any item left in a free cycle locker.
The free use of a cycle locker is provided on the understanding that the user agrees with this condition.
Padlock will be removed from any empty locker
Should there be a need to open a padlocked cycle locker (see above removal condition) then the padlock will be cut off and can be picked up with the cycle from Lost Property.
ScotRail will not be responsible for replacing a padlock damaged under these circumstances.
