As the evenings grow longer and the festive season draws near, we can look forward to wrapping up warm and visiting some show-stopping light and firework displays.

This list has an evening for every festivity, whether it’s Guy Fawkes Night or Christmas there’s a show for the whole family.

Edinburgh Christmas Lights Show, Royal Botanic Gardens

Every Christmas, the Royal Botanic Gardens hosts a new set of spectacular lights that illuminate a trail through the gardens. Along the way you’ll have the chance to meet Father Christmas while enjoying your favourite festive treats as you go. The Royal Botanic Gardens are a 30-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley.

Edinburgh Castle of Light, Edinburgh Castle

The Castle is set to be illuminated by all-new projections in line with this year’s theme ‘Magic and Mystery’. Enjoy a sea of illuminations as they guide you through the castle grounds. Edinburgh Castle is an eight-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley.

When: 24 & 25 November; 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 21-23, 27-30 December; 2 & 3 January

The Enchanted Forest at Faskally Wood. Tree lit up brightly with different colours.

The Enchanted Forest, Faskally Wood

This autumn, Faskally Wood is set to host another original light show, featuring a soundtrack that has been specially designed to complement its dancing lights. Faskally Forest is a 40-minute walk from Pitlochry Station.

Glasglow, Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Glasglow returns with another great theme, Ghostbusters! Glasgow Botanic Gardens is the perfect setting for an evening stroll in autumn, with colourful lights and interactive displays. The Glasgow Botanic Gardens are a 10-minute subway from St Enoch or Queen Street stations.

Lenzie Fireworks Display bonfire

Lenzie Fireworks Display, Lenzie Rugby Club

Lenzie Rugby Park is set to host its third fireworks extravaganza. Working alongside Nemisis Fireworks – the team behind the BBC Proms in the Park’s display – the club is sure to put on a great show. There will also be a variety of food and drink vans on site as well as some live music acts later in the evening. With no on-site parking, except for those with accessibility issues, travelling by train to Lenzie is the easiest option. Lenzie Rugby Club is only a 10-minute walk from Lenzie Station.

Winter, Wonder, Wander, Duthie Park Winter Gardens

A brand new event for Duthie Park Winter Gardens. Get to enjoy the stunning surroundings out of hours, guided by colourful lights illuminating the Victorian Band Stand, fountain and boating ponds bedded among tropical greenery. Duthie Park is a 25-minute walk from Aberdeen Station.

Fawkes Festival, Dalkeith Country Park

The inaugural Fawkes Festival will showcase a firework display set to lights, lasers and music. This year’s theme is Halloween, so why not dress up to make the most of your spooky evening. Dalkeith Country Park is a 30-minute walk from Eskbank Station.
