Brough of Birsay Guided Tour

Brough of Birsay is a monument located on a tidal island with archaeological evidence from Late Neolithic to 17th Century. Most notably, remains of a Pictish society and Early Norse settlement can be found at the Brough.

Tours will last one hour, where you can explore the structures on the island and learn about archaeology through the ages.

The tour will run strictly on time due to the tide times.

Meeting place is on the beach beside the causeway.

There may be limited parking.

The nearest toilet facilities are located in Birsay Palace village, a 13 minute walk over the causeway and into the village.

The causeway is slippy, and the walk towards the Brough is extremely uneven and covered with large beach pebbles - please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

The beach towards the causeway is accessible by stairs with a partial handrail.

Please be aware that in the event of adverse weather the tour will be cancelled.
