A lecture to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Tannahill, the Paisley weaver-poet. Professor Fred Freeman explores the rich seam of the Tannahill song tradition that easily bears comparison with that of Robert Burns – lovely pastoral songs; light satirical pieces; more serious abolitionist, anti-sectarian and anti-war songs.
With copious musical examples drawn from Professor Freeman’s internationally acclaimed and newly released ‘Complete Tannahill Songs’, and striking graphic art Illustrations to complement the musical presentation.
