Sheku Kanneh-Mason & Harry Baker

Diverse compositions spanning Janáček to Lianne La Havas are woven together by Sheku Kanneh-Mason and pianist Harry Baker.

Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, former winner of the BBC Young Musician Competition, joins forces with the pianist and composer Harry Baker. This wide-reaching concert explores the enduring inspiration of Johann Sebastian Bach and his impact on musicians across the ages, from Leoš Janáček to Bill Evans, and Lianne La Havas to Laura Mvula.

Baker and Kanneh-Mason contrast Bach’s First Cello Suite with Leoš Janáček’s Pohádka (Fairy Tale) and Heitor Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras No 2, a direct tribute to the German composer himself. Songs by two iconic jazz musicians Pat Metheny and Bill Evans – who were likewise influenced by Bach – also feature.

The duo concludes a dazzlingly diverse selection with their own arrangements of Bach.
