We’ve put together some tips for fans travelling to the European Championship qualifier at Hampden and One Direction at The Hydro on the evening of Thursday 8 October.
As both of these events are taking place at the same time, we’re advising commuters that their regular services will be busier, and they may wish to travel earlier or later than normal.
Passengers should also note that engineering works may affect their route, and they should check this here .
What ScotRail is doing to make the day run smoothly:
- Putting queuing systems in place at Glasgow Central on the outbound journey, and at Mount Florida, Exhibition Centre and Glasgow Queen Street stations on the return
- Enforcing alcohol bans to help make sure everyone can safely enjoy the day
- Issuing messages to keep everyone informed
- Working with partners including British Transport Police
What you can do to ensure an easier journey:
- Purchase your tickets in advance, including onward travel to Mount Florida or Exhibition Centre, either from booking offices, our app, website, or via telesales on 0344 811 0141
- Allow extra time for travel as it will be busy
- Consider travelling earlier in the day as you may not be able to board the first train you aim for
- Be prepared to stand if you don’t have a seat reservation
- Listen to advice from ScotRail staff and BTP officers
- Get back to the station in plenty of time and don’t rely on the last train as you may not be able to get on
- Don’t drink or visibly carry alcohol on trains before and after the game when a ban will be enforced by British Transport Police – this is in addition to our 9pm-10am alcohol ban
