Veterans Railcard & Discount
With a Veterans Railcard, you can enjoy savings of more than 1/3 off train fares across the UK.
The Veterans Railcard is easy to sign up for and costs £21 for one year or £61 for three years. You can choose to have your card digitally loaded to the Railcard app on your phone, or as a physical card. You must always be able to show your railcard whenever you travel to be eligible for the discount.
The card entitles you to a 34% discount on Standard and First-Class Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Advance fares. Some time restrictions do apply so always check when you book your ticket.
Travel can be more fun when you go with someone else. With the Veterans Railcard, you can add a named companion when you make your application. When you travel together, your companion can enjoy the savings too. All the more reason to get out and explore Scotland by rail!

Yes, you can. You only need to have served a minimum of one day in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) or Merchant Mariners who have seen duty on legally defined military operations. Eligibility documents need to be provided at time of purchase.
No you can’t. Once you add your named companion on your application, that is the only person who will also receive the discount. They only receive the discount when they travel with you – the main cardholder. They cannot receive a discount when they travel on their own.
The Veterans Railcard costs £30 for one year, and £70 for three years.
You can travel anytime but a minimum fare of £12 applies Monday – Friday between 04:30 and 09:59, excluding public holidays and during July and August. You can enjoy the best savings when you travel Off-Peak.
Yes they do. For travel within Scotland on ScotRail services, you may be best getting a Kids for a Quid ticket. This means up to four children can all travel for just £1 return. If you’re travelling further afield the Veterans Railcard will give up to 4 children, aged 5-15 travelling with you a 60% discount.
