The Highland Railcard is a great way to save on your travel throughout the North and West Highland regions of Scotland. However, it's only available to people who live permanently at selected postcodes within these regions.
Applicable postcodes
The Highland Railcard is available to anyone aged 16 or over, who permanently reside in the following postcode areas:
- All IV except: IV12, IV30, IV31, IV32, IV36
- All KW
- All HS
- PA20 to PA38, PA41 to PA49, PA60 to PA78, PA80
- PH16, PH17, PH30 to PH44, PH49, PH50
- FK20, FK21
- G83
A Highland Railcard costs £15 for the year and can save you 50% on the following routes:
- Mallaig/Fort William/Oban to/from Glasgow (direct services only)
- Wick/Thurso to/from Inverness (including Inverness Airport)
- Kyle of Lochalsh to/from Inverness (including Inverness Airport)
The saving applies to all journeys made between Inverness, Dingwall, Kyle of Lochalsh, Wick and Thurso. There are no time restrictions with the Highland Railcard, so you can save when you use any service, any day of the week. Whether you're travelling around the North and West Highlands for work or pleasure, there are some great savings to be had.
When you use the railcard, up to two kids under 16 can travel for a flat fare of only £2 return each.
Buying your Highland Railcard on Smartcard
The Highland Railcard is now available on Smartcard, offering the same great discounts for a seamless journey experience. By switching your paper tickets for a Smartcard you're also making a great choice for the environment.

Buying your Highland Railcard from a booking office
You can also buy your Highland Railcard from these stations: Inverness, Dingwall, Thurso, Wick, Mallaig, Fort William, and Kyle of Lochalsh booking offices. If you're purchasing a Highland Railcard for the first time from a ticket office, you'll need to bring a passport-size photo with you for the photo ID part of your Railcard. We don't require this if you're renewing your Highland Railcard and wish to use your current photo ID.

Do I need to carry the Highland Railcard with me when I travel?
Yes you must always carry your Highland Railcard with you when you buy your ticket and when you travel. If you cannot show it when asked you may be charged the full fare.
What do I need to prove I’m eligible?
You will need to provide proof of address. You must live in the postcodes specified above to be eligible.
Can I get a digital or paper copy?
You can have your Highland Railcard put onto Smartcard.
Can a companion travelling with me also get the 50% discount?
No. The discount is just for the Highland Railcard holder.
How much does it cost?
A Highland Railcard costs £15 for one year.
