A journey to a more sustainable railway for Scotland

Everything we do at ScotRail is geared towards creating a low carbon sustainable railway that is pivotal in supporting local economies and connecting communities across Scotland...

We were delighted to welcome delegates from all over the world to Glasgow during COP26, who share our values of creating a greener, more sustainable world.

Creating a sustainable railway for Scotland is at the heart of everything we do. We look at every single part of our operations to ensure that we’re doing all we can to make a difference.

Our main goal is to fully decarbonise Scotland’s passenger rail network by 2035. Everybody benefits from having a sustainable low carbon railway – our passengers, the communities we operate in and the local economies. To do this, we need to make the railway appealing to use, both economically and environmentally. From the trains we use, to providing infrastructure that makes customer’s lives easier such as bike parking and electric vehicle charging, we hope to encourage more people to leave their car at home and use the railway to get around Scotland.

We invite you to browse our Sustainability Hub to learn more about what we’re doing to create a low-carbon sustainable railway that benefits the environment and the people of Scotland. In each of the sections, we offer ways that you can get involved to play your part.
