National Transport Strategy

The National Transport Strategy is set out by the Scottish Government, based on the Scottish Sustainable Development Goals, and details the vision for Scotland’s transport system for the next 20 years.

It focuses on driving a sustainable, inclusive, safe and accessible system in Scotland that everyone can use. With particular focus on reducing inequalities, taking climate action, helping to deliver inclusive economic growth and promoting health and wellbeing.

Our vision

We will have a sustainable, inclusive, safe and accessible transport system, helping deliver a healthier, fairer and more prosperous Scotland for communities, businesses and visitors.

The strategy brings huge benefits to our customers because it ties in with our ambitions to build the best railway Scotland has ever had, that can be used confidently by everyone.

It helps us to keep our focus on creating and sustaining a zero-carbon railway. We want to build a railway for Scotland that everyone is able to use and can do so with ease.

What you can do

We all need to take responsibility and play our part to make sure that our travel and lifestyle choices are sustainable and leave as small as impact as possible on our environment.

You can do this by:

  • Using sustainable travel choices where possible
  • Leave the car at home when possible and walk or cycle to the station
  • Volunteer in your local community – perhaps helping to look after your local station
  • Reporting anti-social behaviour or vandalism
  • Looking out for one another

Using a carbon calculator is a great way to see what emissions you could save depending on what type of transport you choose.
