Travelling by train is one of the lowest carbon modes of transport, other than using your own two feet of course.
And while you may have walked or cycled miles on your daily outings during lockdown, when you travel further afield, you’ll probably be looking for a speedier mode of transport.
Normally about 75% of all ScotRail passenger journeys are made on electric trains and we’re always working hard towards our aim of fully decarbonising Scotland’s railway by 2035.
This rather nifty calculator helps you work out just how many CO2 emissions you’re saving when you take one of our electric trains instead of a car or even a plane (of course, you are unlikely to book a flight for your nearest city, but it’s very interesting to see the difference in emissions). Just swapping the car for the train can save enough emissions to boil hundreds of kettles!
