Broughty Castle Museum
Sitting at the mouth of the River Tay, Broughty Castle was built in 1496 on a rocky promontory. It has a long and chequered history.
The museum housed within the castle houses displays detailing the life and times of the nearby town, its people and the surrounding wildlife. From the top of the castle tower there are fantastic views over the river. It is located very close to Broughty Ferry Beach and Esplanade and features a changing programme of events, activities and displays.
Camperdown Wildlife Centre
Camperdown Wildlife Centre hosts a range of wild creatures, including the European brown bears, the golden eagle and the aggressively protective Ural owl. There's a programme of events during the summer months, and the café offers refreshments. The centre is available for party hire.
There is free adult wheelchair use (subject to availability). Assistance dog boarding is available (unfortunately dogs are not allowed into the centre). The generally flat terrain is considered reasonably wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
The Cheesery
Based just off the High Street, this friendly cheesemonger sells a terrific range of British and European cheeses. There’s a strong emphasis on supporting Scottish farmhouse cheesemakers with a selection that changes regularly. Deli produce to complement the cheeses includes olives, relishes and a selection of oatcakes and biscuits. Gift baskets can be bought for the cheese fans in your life and the shop can even create striking cheese wedding cakes.
Collinsons Restaurant
Chef Stephen Collinson opened this sleek Broughty Ferry restaurant in 2012 and it has been attracting plaudits for its refined cookery ever since. Set within a modern building, the interiors continue the clean contemporary feel and service is slick. Collinsons promises elegant dining from a menu bursting with shellfish, game and premium produce that includes plenty of Scottish ingredients including smokies, local cheeses served with Aberfeldy oatcakes and mussels from the west coast.
