Things to do
Frames Contemporary Gallery
We started as a picture framers in 1979, and this is still an important part of our business, but we always had a desire to be able to exhibit Contemporary Scottish Artists work. So, in 1991 we moved to our current premises in Perth to allow the holding of larger exhibitions. In 1997 we added a large, purpose built extension to this space to be able to expand the size and range of our exhibitions.
Throughout the year we have a busy programme of exhibitions in the gallery as well as attending Art Fairs in London, Edinburgh and Bristol. This allows us to bring the wonderful Scottish Artists...
King James VI Golf Club
We’re naturally proud of our history stretching back over 160 years, and of course we love our unique, town centre, 18 hole Island setting in the middle of the River Tay. But it’s excellent golf wrapped up in a friendly, sociable, value for money experience that we want to be remembered for.
The course, designed by Old Tom Morris, a fabulously fair test at all levels, is picturesque and challenging and not too long. But no cake walk for any standard of player. Every hole presents its own personality and our greens team provide one of this great golf area’s best tracks.
Kinnoull Hill
Kinnoull Hill is topped by the Georgian folly of Kinnoull Tower, built in 1829. The hill offers spectacular views from the summit and you can follow woodland trails in search of local wildlife, although chain saw sculptor Pete Bowsher's sculptures of animals are a quirky tourist attraction.
Loch of the Lowes Visitor Centre
Loch of the Lowes, the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s wildlife reserve, near Dunkeld, is now a protected haven for even more native Scottish wildlife, including osprey, red squirrels and pine marten, thanks to an additional 32 hectares of important land being recently signed over to the care of the wildlife conservation charity.
North Inch Park
North Inch is a large public park in Perth, Scotland. About 54 hectares in size, it is one of two "Inches" in Perth, the other being the smaller, 31-hectare South Inch, located half a mile across the city. The inches were granted to the city, when it was a royal burgh, by King Robert II in 1374.
Perth Museum
Perth Museum is a world-class cultural and heritage attraction highlighting the fascinating objects and stories that put Perth and Kinross at the centre of Scotland’s story. Returning to Perthshire for the first time in over 700 years, the Stone is the centrepiece of this new Museum and is free for all to view.
Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre
Opened in January 2017, Pitlochry Dam Visitor Centre showcases the rich history of hydro electricity in the north of Scotland and how it transformed all our lives. On display are a number of fascinating artefacts that show how generations of homes have been transformed by electrical appliances.
Visitors will meet the visionaries, such as Tom Johnston, who saw the untapped potential of hydro power in Scotland as well as hear the stories of the Hydro Boys and Tunnel Tigers who lived – and sadly in some cases died – building the schemes.
Pitlochry’s ‘fish ladder’ was integral to the design for...
