The Cycle Fund is part of our ongoing commitment to improve access and facilities for cyclists at Scotland's stations.
Over a period of four years, £100,000 a year will be made available to local councils and community organisations. The funding will be used to deliver projects which contribute to our vision of providing a ‘doorstep to destination’ journey for customers, whilst reducing congestion and pollution.
The Cycle Fund supports the programme set out by the Scottish Government to increase cycling and active travel. It offers organisations the opportunity to work with us to deliver enhanced cycling infrastructure and encourage as many people as possible to integrate cycling into their everyday journeys.
It's part of our core vision to make the railway as accessible as possible and jointly supports the Scottish Government’s vision to increase the number of people using rail, and the proportion of journeys made by bike.
Types of project
The Cycle Fund will provide up to 50% of project costs. It can be used to support projects which will:
- Improve directions and signs for cyclists to and from stations
- Upgrade connections between stations and other local services such as schools and town centres
- Improve marketing and promotion of cycling to stations including digital
- Introduce new facilities for customers accessing stations by bike
