Autumn has arrived and with it, a whole host of events. .
We've pulled out a few of our favourites to get you out and about across Scotland this October.
Del Amitri - Inverness Ironworks
Listening to Del Amitri’s new album, Fatal Mistakes, you’ll instantly hear the Glasgow band hasn’t lost its knack for the kind of tuneful classy pop that saw it riding high in the charts in the 1990s. Justin Currie and the boys finished this album (their seventh) the day before lockdown last March, and other than a few shows here and there, this is the first time they’ve been able to lay on a full tour to promote the record. Fans of the old stuff fear not, there will undoubtedly be room for a trip down memory lane where Nothing Ever Happens . . .

Joker In Concert - Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow
Joaquin Phoenix deservedly scooped the 2020 Best Actor Oscar for his compelling and unsettling performance in Joker. As Arthur Fleck, he played a troubled soul who turns to stand-up comedy as a means of finding himself only to slip ever further into the abyss and headfirst into comic-book villainy. Just as crucial to the movie as Phoenix’s powerhouse central performance is the emotive score from Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir which is played by a live orchestra to accompany these screenings of Todd Phillips’ unforgettable film.

Tim Minchin - Dundee Caird Hall
The Australian musical comedian has certainly come a long way since winning the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe. He’s now bona fide showbiz royalty having rocked the musical theatre world with his songs for Matilda The Musical. But now he’s returned to where it all began for him, on the live stage with a piano and his funny lyrics, for a show entitled, appropriately enough, Back.

Groan Ups - Theatre Royal, Glasgow
Mischief Theatre has long been producing gloriously successful comedy shows about things going horribly awry: The Play That Goes Wrong, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and Magic Goes Wrong are three in which the stage pretty much collapses around the actors. Groan Ups takes a slightly different tack by following five characters as they move from being 6-year-old classmates through to their adolescent years and on to a revelatory school reunion in their 30s.

Tim Peake - Perth Concert Hall
In December 2015, former Apache pilot Tim Peake rocketed to household name status when he became the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station and conduct a spacewalk. While there, he also ran the London marathon on a treadmill, video-called with Stephen Hawking and helped dock two spacecraft. He’s had quite the life, and now Peake is on tour with My Journey To Space during which he’ll guide his audience through the wonders he discovered along the way, as well as reminding us how precious our own planet is.
