European Union Youth Orchestra: Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra

BEANBAG CONCERT SERIES

The European Union Youth Orchestra leads an educational expedition across the instruments of the grand ensemble.

Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra is an expedition through the instrumental families of the orchestra, illustrating their different sounds and capabilities. Its light-hearted dissection of the grand ensemble continues to engross music newcomers and aficionados alike.

The compositional roots of The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra date back to the 17th century, with Henry Purcell’s incidental music for a tragic play called Abdelazer. While Abdelazer has long disappeared from our stages, The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra became a twentieth-century classroom staple.

Led by conductor Gianandrea Noseda and played by the young musical marvels of the European Union Youth Orchestra, Britten’s vision for high-quality music education comes to life in front of you. Find a beanbag, kick back, and hear the orchestra at its fullest power.
