A Smart way to say thank you

We’re sharing £1 million with eligible Smartcard Season Ticket holders.

It’s a thanks from Transport Scotland and the ScotRail Alliance while we build the best railway Scotland’s ever had.

The claim period for eligible customers was open from 26 March - 30 June 2018.

To qualify you had to have a ScotRail Smart Season Ticket valid for travel on Wednesday 21 March 2018, loaded onto a ScotRail Adult Smartcard or Club 50 card.

Eligible Smartcard Season Ticket holders could claim an equal share of £1 million, worth £89.

How to claim

The claim period is now closed. It ran from 26 March - 30 June 2018.

  • Buy another ticket online from scotrail.co.uk between 22 March and 30 June 2018. This can be a Season Ticket, Flexipass, single or return
  • Note the 10-digit booking reference number – you’ll find this in your confirmation email
  • Claim your share from 26 March to 30 June 2018 via your My ScotRail account. We’ll credit the money to the credit or debit card you used to buy your follow-up ticket

£1 million giveaway terms and conditions

  • Eligibility: to share in our £1 million giveaway (the promotion) you must:
    1) Have an active ScotRail Season Ticket on a ScotRail Adult photo Smartcard or Club 50 card, valid for travel on 21 March 2018; and
    2) Make a follow-up purchase from our website and submit an online claim by 30 June 2018 as described below
  • New applications for Smartcards
    Please note that a minimum of 5 working days is required to process a new application for a ScotRail Smartcard. ScotRail accepts no responsibility for applications which are not successfully completed before 21 March 2018. New applicants are advised to apply as soon as possible for a Smartcard to ensure their eligibility to participate in the promotion
  • Follow-up purchase: to claim the reward, you need to buy another train ticket online from www.scotrail.co.uk between 22 March and 30 June 2018
  • Claim process: the claim period runs from 00:00 on Monday 26 March to 23:59 on Saturday 30 June 2018. Log into your My ScotRail account and submit the online claim form with the 10-digit numerical booking reference number from your follow-up purchase by no later than 23:59 on Saturday 30 June 2018
  • Your reward will be credited to the payment card you used to buy your follow-up train ticket. We will endeavour to make payments within 14 days of submitting your claim
  • The reward value is calculated as £1 million divided by the number of eligible Smart Season Ticket holders on 21 March 2018. Each eligible Smart Season Ticket holder will be entitled to claim an equal share of the £1 million giveaway fund
  • The reward is non-transferable
  • ScotRail accepts no responsibility for entries or purchases not successfully completed for any reason
  • Participants are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon entry. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award a prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions
  • ScotRail reserves the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend the promotion where it becomes necessary to do so
  • The decision of ScotRail regarding any aspect of the promotion is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it
  • The promotion is not open to ScotRail staff, their families or any third party directly associated with the promotion
  • Each participant may only submit one claim
  • Participants must be UK residents aged 16 or over
  • The promotion will be governed by Scots law and entrants to the promotion submit to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts

All holders of an active ScotRail Smart Season Ticket on a ScotRail Adult photo Smartcard or Club 50 card on the qualifying day of 21 March 2018 will be eligible to claim an equal share of the £1 million reward fund. The fund will be divided equally by the number of eligible customers.

To qualify you must have an active ScotRail Season Ticket, valid for travel on 21 March 2018, loaded onto your ScotRail Adult photo Smartcard or Club 50 card.

Your Smart Season Ticket can be any duration (weekly, monthly, up to annual).

Once you’ve qualified, there are three steps to claim your share of the £1 million reward fund:

  1. Buy another ticket online from scotrail.co.uk between 22 March and 30 June 2018. This can be a Season Ticket, Flexipass, single or return ticket
  2. Note the 10-digit booking reference number – you’ll find this in your confirmation email
  3. Claim your share using the online form in your My ScotRail account dashboard

The £1 million reward fund has been divided equally by the number of eligible Smartcard Season Ticket holders on 21 March 2018. The reward per eligible customer is £89.

We’ll post a message to your My ScotRail account dashboard after the qualifying day (21 March 2018) to let you know if you have qualified. This will tell you what to do next.

To claim the reward, you need to buy another train ticket online from www.scotrail.co.uk between 22 March and 30 June 2018. This can be a paper or Smart ticket of any type. Season Ticket, Flexipass, single or return ticket - they all count.

Save the 10-digit reference number from your confirmation email - you'll need this when you submit your claim.

We’ll credit your share of £1 million to the credit or debit card you used to buy this ticket.

Once you have placed your order via the ScotRail website, you’ll receive an email with the subject ‘Your Booking Confirmation…’. You’ll find your 10-digit numeric booking reference within the email.

If you’re eligible for a share of the £1 million reward, the claim form will appear in your My ScotRail account dashboard from 26 March to 30 June 2018.

When we receive your claim we'll check the details and, all being well, we'll credit your reward to the credit or debit card you used to buy your follow-up train ticket.

Check your statement for the £89 payment. It will appear on your statement from ‘ScotRail’.

We will endeavour to make payments within 14 days of submitting your claim but this could take longer during times of peak demand.

Log into your My ScotRail account from 21 March 2018 to 30 June 2018. If you’re eligible for a share of our £1 million reward fund, you’ll see a blue offer block on your account dashboard telling you what to do next.

Don’t see the offer block? Here are a few things to check:

  • Do/did you have a ScotRail Smart Season Ticket, valid for travel on 21 March 2018?
    • Yes
    • No: This offer only applies to ScotRail Smart Season Tickets valid for travel on 21 March 2018. Flexipasses, ZoneCards and other ticket types don’t qualify for this offer
  • Is your ScotRail Season Ticket on a ScotRail Adult Smartcard or Club 50 card?
    • Yes
    • No: Your ScotRail Season Ticket must be loaded onto a ScotRail Smartcard to qualify for a share of the £1 million reward fund. ScotRail tickets on Child Smartcards, SPT or Grasshopper Smartcards don’t qualify for this offer
  • Can you see your Smartcard details at the top of the screen?
    • Yes
    • No: Sometimes the system is interrupted and we can’t check your Smartcard account. You’ll see an error message telling you that account management is currently unavailable and to try again later

If you answered ‘Yes’ to all these questions, call our Smartcard team on 0344 811 0141 and they will check the Smart tickets on your account.

It usually takes five working days to receive your Smartcard in the post. We recommend you order your ScotRail Smartcard by 12 March to ensure you receive it in time to buy and load a Season Ticket by the qualifying date of 21 March 2018.

If you haven’t received it after five working days, call our Smartcard team on 0344 811 0141 and they’ll check the status of your order.

You'll need to order a ScotRail Smartcard and then call us switch your paper Season Ticket to Smart. To get started, you’ll need a My ScotRail account.

  • Log in or create a new My ScotRail account
  • Once you’ve logged in, click on the ‘Order Smartcard’ button and follow the instructions to order a photo Smartcard. It only takes a few minutes, and you’ll have your free Smartcard in five working days
  • Once you've received your Smartcard, call the Smartcard team on 0344 811 0141 to have the remaining balance of your paper ticket transferred onto your new ScotRail Smartcard. The team will ask you for details about your paper ticket and your Smartcard so have them to hand

As long as your ScotRail Smart Season Ticket is valid for travel on 21 March 2018 and is loaded onto a ScotRail Adult Smartcard or Club 50 card you will automatically qualify for a share of the reward.

You will still need to make a follow-up purchase and claim your reward.

No, only ScotRail Smartcards with an active Season Ticket valid for travel on 21 March, qualify.

Yes, as long as the ScotRail Season Ticket on your ScotRail Club 50 Smartcard is valid for travel on 21 March 2018.

No, you have to be aged 16 or over to be eligible for the promotion.

You can’t put Season Tickets on a non-photo Smartcard so you’ll need to apply for a ScotRail Adult photo Smartcard first.

No, only ScotRail Smartcards with an active ScotRail Season Ticket valid for travel on 21 March, qualify.

No, your Season Ticket must be on a ScotRail Adult Smartcard to qualify.

The Terms & Conditions of entry are that you must have an active ScotRail Smart Season Ticket on a ScotRail Adult Smartcard, valid for travel on the qualifying day of 21 March 2018 to be eligible to claim an equal share of the £1 million reward fund. These terms are not flexible.

Apply for your Smartcard as soon as possible to ensure you receive it in time to participate in the promotion. We recommend you order your Smartcard by 12 March.
