No you don’t. You can travel together but you don’t have to. Just one of the adults named and pictured on the card must be present with at least one child aged between 5 and 15.

Unlike other railcards, there are no time restrictions with a Disabled Persons Railcard. You can get 1/3 off at any time of day.

You can use it for travel on off-peak trains during the week and any time at weekends.

To close your Smart Plus account:

  • Step 1: Call our Smartcard team on 0344 811 0141 (07:00-22:00) - they'll set your account to 'Closed Pending' and explain the next steps
  • Step 2: After 05:30 the next day tap your Smartcard on a ticket gate or platform validator to cancel Smart Plus
    Any journeys you make with Smart Plus between steps 1 and 2 will be added to your account
  • Step 3: Add credit if your account balance is below £0.00:
    • Make a manual top up payment online (you'll receive an automatic refund of any credit balance)
    • OR activate Auto Top Up and your selected payment card will be charged the outstanding amount overnight
  • Step 4: After four days we'll close your account and send you an email to let you know
    If there's still an outstanding balance on your account, we'll contact you for payment first

Click on the “Login/Register” link in the website header. Here you can log in to your ScotRail account, register for a new account, and request a new password.

Register/log into My ScotRail to:

  • Buy tickets online
  • Register for a ScotRail Smartcard
  • Purchase Smart products such as Club 50 membership, Under 25 Advance Purchase and Highland Railcard
  • Add and manage your Smartcards
  • View and update your contact details

If you lose property at one of our stations or on our trains, call our lost property team on 0330 109 2833.

You can collect items left at stations and on trains from Glasgow Queen Street station - we sometimes charge a small fee for returning items to you. Unfortunately, we cannot send items to you in the post.

Please note: Items left at Glasgow Central or Edinburgh Waverley will be stored at these stations.

If you have left items on trains run by another operator, contact them directly.

Once you've successfully registered for a Smart Plus account, you'll need to add a minimum of £20 credit before you can travel.

You can choose to add more credit, up to a maximum balance of £200.
