Changes to trains from Forres and Elgin

Last updated: Friday, 22 September 2017

We’re transforming your railway, delivering faster, more frequent and more comfortable journeys on the Aberdeen to Inverness route.

As part of this, we’re opening a new, relocated station for Forres and extending the platforms at Elgin. As part of the upgrade works, we can’t run trains between Inverness and Keith from 7 to 16 October 2017.

Why will there be no trains on these dates?

The line through Forres will be closed in order for new signalling equipment to be commissioned, as well as to allow for everything to be moved over to the new station. This means we are unable to use Forres and Elgin stations while these works take place. The Forres station car park will be closed after 6 October, other than for rail replacement bus use, so please ensure your car is not parked there after this date.

The platforms and footbridge at Elgin will also be unavailable at this time, however the ticket office will remain open at the usual times.

When will the buses run?

All rail services will be replaced by buses between Inverness and Keith or Huntly. Journey times will be extended and departure times may be earlier or later than usual during this period.

Will train times change?

No, but trains will only call at the new station from 17 October. Trains for Inverness and Aberdeen will mainly depart from Platform 1 at first, so please check the customer information screens for the platform number before you board your train.

The current station at Forres will close on Friday 6 October. The new station, around 230 metres to the north, will open on Tuesday 17 October. During the station closure, we will be unable to sell tickets from the station booking office or platform ticket machine.
