ScotRail adds more seats for Viking Festival

Last updated: Thursday, 29 August 2019

ScotRail is adding more seats for customers travelling to the Largs Viking Festival over the next two weekends.

The train operator has announced it will add extra carriages to services between Glasgow Central and Largs, Ayr and Gourock throughout the day on Saturday 31 August, Sunday 1 September, Saturday 7 September and Sunday 8 September to help customers get to and from the event.

Started in 1980, the annual festival runs from Saturday 31 August until Sunday 8 September and marks the 1263 Battle of Largs, the last mainland battle between the Scots and Norse.

Each year the living history Viking Village is open to the public and showcases life in a 13th Century Viking Village.

ScotRail Head of Customer Operations Phil Campbell said:

“We’re really looking forward to helping people travel to the Largs Viking Festival to catch a glimpse of what life would have been like in a 13th Century Viking Village.

“To help the festival run smoothly, we’re adding more seats to trains in Ayrshire and Inverclyde over the next two weekends.

“Our advice to anyone heading to the event is to plan your journey in advance, make sure to check your train times on our website or mobile app and leave plenty of time for travel.”
