Last updated: Friday, 15 December 2023

More than 500,000 journeys have been made at ScotRail’s award-winning Robroyston station, as it celebrates its fourth anniversary this month.

The £14 million station, situated in the northeast outskirts of Glasgow, was officially opened on 16 December 2019, and it had an immediate impact with average customer journeys of 3,500 per week, rising to around 4,200 in 2023

After a challenging period during the pandemic, a recovery in 2022 saw more than 140,000 journeys to and from the station, with a massive 58 per cent increase for 2023, with 220,000 journeys.

Now in its fourth year, ScotRail is celebrating with total journeys of more than 500,000.

As part of ScotRail’s commitment to net zero, the station which connects Robroyston and Millerston residents with Scotland’s largest city, offers a free park-and-ride facility to take cars off the road and ease congestion into Glasgow city centre.

With 263 free parking spaces, including 12 electric vehicle charging bays and easy access to the M80, the station provides an easy commuting option for local residents, as well as drivers travelling into Glasgow city centre from further afield.

The station also scooped the Transport Team/Partnership of the Year prize at the Scottish Transport Awards in 2020.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:

“We’re delighted to be celebrating four years of serving the Robroyston area with reaching the fantastic milestone of half a million customer journeys.

“The investment in Robroyston station, as well as the facilities it brings to the local area, is a perfect example of how we can encourage more people out of their cars and onto trains, as part of our commitment to net zero.”
